The Natal Chart: Sun, Moon, Rising & Venus

Sun sign:

The sun sign is the sign we usually learn and associate with first. Based strictly on the month/day on which you were born, this reflects the zodiac sign the sun was in on the day you were born. This is the primary sign that’s used for most general daily, weekly or monthly horoscopes. Most of us know the typical traits (both “good” and “bad”) of our sun signs; for example, Pisces are typically considered to be super imaginative and creative (a plus), but that same feature may lead to being “up in the clouds,” and not necessarily tethered or tied to reality. Pisces therefore may struggle with grounding and stability and therefore face harsh “reality checks” throughout their lives. Virgos on the other hand (which sit exactly opposite Pisces on the zodiac wheel) are known for their grounding ability and highly organized nature and mentality. While this is a positive aspect, it can become negative if they become too tied to perfection. Fun fact, sun signs that sit opposite each other (like Pisces and Virgo) tend to get along very well!

Rising sign:

Now, we’re getting to the good stuff! Before I learned about birth charts, I always felt like my classification solely as a Pisces was significantly lacking. Sure, I was dreamy and watery, like any good Pisces should be, but I felt much more fiery and sharp in a social sense - how I interacted with people, as well as how I was perceived. The discovery of my rising sign affirmed these other feelings and traits. As a Scorpio rising (the water of the desert), I pride myself on my ability to connect and lead with a degree of emotional intelligence in all of my social interactions. Your rising sign reflects how you show up in the world, how others perceive you and how you interact socially. The rising sign (or the ascendant as it’s sometimes called by serious astrologers and students), reflects “the zodiacal sign and degree that is ascending on the eastern horizon at the specific time and location of an event” (i.e. your specific date, time and location of birth).

Moon sign:

Those of you, who have been following me for a while, know how much I follow moon cycles and resonate with moon energy. Your moon sign reflects the sign the moon was in, again on the day you were born. The moon changes signs every couple of days so this can change quite rapidly (i.e if a child has an expected due date, but is born before or after, this can affect and change their moon sign). Understand that whenever we incarnate (i.e. decide to come forth and be born into the world) is always exactly what was needed for our soul, life purpose and karmic development. I read somewhere recently that those born at night may resonate more with their moon sign than their sun sign. This is definitely true for me as I was born at night and I have an Earth sign as my moon sign, which speaks back to the tethering and grounding to reality that us Pisceans need!

Venus sign:

Finally, your venus sign, the planet and sign of love. For a lot of people, your sun sign and venus sign may be the same and the venus sign always falls within two placements of the sun sign. For example, if you're a Gemini sun, your venus sign will be: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer or Leo. I’m still a novice student of astrology, and this is the sign (of the prominent ones) that I have the least familiarity with as yet. That said, what I do know is that your venus sign will heavily impact your emotional and romantic life, and I’ve been studying whether partners or soulmates sun or venus signs correlate to our own (hint: it does).

To that end, the YouTube readings I’ve been posting can be applied or viewed based on your sun, moon, rising or venus sign. Note that you can also cross-watch for another person (friend, partner, parent, co-worker, etc.) given that you know their sign placements. To that end, have you checked out the 2020 Year-Ahead Tarot Spreads on the Youtube channel? If not, check ‘em out. I’m still working on these readings, but they should all be posted by the end of the week. As always, not everything will resonate. Take what does, and release the rest. If you’re interested in learning more about your particular natal chart (note: this is NOT a full birth or natal chart reading), please book a spiritual consulting session. (Side bar: I also now do dream interpretation. Note that this is an intuitive interpretation.)
